Join costumed docents as they lead Las Posadas procession though the mission grounds with songs in Spanish and English. The tradition dates back over 400 years in Mexico and reenacts the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter in Bethlehem.

This free event is open to the public and we invite you to celebrate afterwards with refreshments in La Sala.

Tickets are $ 10 each . Seating at the event is very limited.

Over 500 luminaries lead the way to an evening of candlelight and music celebrating the anniversary of the founding of La Purísima Mission in 1787. We celebrate this event every year, rain or shine on the anniversary date, December 8. Enjoy the musical performance by a local group in the setting of the candlelit historic church. After the performance, guests are invited to La Sala to enjoy fellowship and refreshments. Tickets are $ 10 each . Seating at the event is very limited.

Attendance is encouraged for all 6 years and older. To enhance the mood and ambience of the concert, photography is best before and after the performance only. Assistance from the parking lot to the church is available to those with limited mobility.

Join the costumed docents and staff for an opportunity to observe and participate in the craft activities that supplied the needs of the mission residents. Demonstrated crafts may include: basket weaving, tortilla making, candle making, soap making, spinning and weaving, carpentry, pottery, and blacksmithing.

Experience Chumash Culture Day at La Purisima Mission SHP. The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Cultural Department will provide live craft demonstrations, cultural touch table, and stories in the historic mission grounds. This program kicks off California State Parks Week June 14 thru June 18 at participating State Parks. This program is free to park visitors.

Join us at La Purísima Mission for the free Las Posadas event on Saturday, December 18 at 2pm.

Las Posadas commemorates the journey of Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of safe refuge.

The procession of costumed Park docents will begin at the Main Church and end at La Sala.

Refreshments will be served and a piñata with dulces will be provided.

Kids will also receive a take home craft: a poinsettia ornament with a legend attached.

It take place in the historic main church of La Purísima Mission to celebrate the founding of the mission. Founding Day recognizes the day La Purísima Mission was established on December 8, 1787 on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
